Philippine’s Independence Day is observed annually on June 12. This observation came into effect after President Diosdado Macapagal signed the Republic Act No. 4166 in August 1964. This legalized Philippine’s Independence Day as a holiday based on the Declaration of Independence written up on June 12, 1898, by General Emilio Aguinaldo. They were rejoicing in their revolutionary separation from Spanish colonization. That day, the Philippines’ flag was raised, and their national anthem was played for the first time.

If you were in the Philippines today, you would see many people, including government officials, employees, and students participating in nationwide parades. The main highlight includes a police and military parade in Manila that is headed by the country’s president. The president makes a speech and he is followed by a 21-gun salute. Many Filipino’s all over the world celebrate Philippine’s Independence Day.
