Carnevale is one of Italy’s biggest winter festivals with events and parties spanning two to three weeks before the actual Carnevale date. The date of Carnevale is the big final party where you will find decorated boats floating along the Rio di Cannaregio, mask and costume processions through the streets and amazing performances in city squares. One of which, called Flight of the Angel, is a dramatic re-enactment that sees someone fly through Piazza San Marco while suspended from a rope. The final event is a grand firework show in the Piazza on Carnevale.

The festival is celebrated 40 days before Easter. Because the date of Easter changes from year to year, so does the date for Carnevale festivities. This festival also marks the beginning of Lent, so many people take this opportunity to eat and drink generously to compensate for the food they will not be able to eat during fasting. Hence why “Fat Tuesday” is a common nickname for Carnevale.

The "Festa delle Marie" of Venice Carnival is a unique opportunity to admire the traditional venetian period costumes! It evokes the homage that the Venetian Doge offered every year to twelve beautiful but humble venetian girls, offering them magnificent jewels as a bridal dowry. This year the walking parade of the twelve Venetian girls will be Saturday 15th February, don't miss it! Info: bit.ly/2Vkf38e
