Radio South Asia’s Neeti Dhillon, host of Naashta and Nagme with Neeti interviewed Mrs. Tripat Kaur from the Indo-Canadian Women’s Association. She is the project co-ordinator and settlement counsellor. November 25th was United Nations Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women and December 6 was the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Every year so many women fall prey to domestic violence  and the ultimate effect is seen not just on them but on their children as well.

  • 1 in 5 women experience some kind of abuse from their intimate partners.
  • On average every 6 days 1 woman gets killed due to family violence.
  • Every year in Canada 362,000 children witness family violence.
  • Across Canada over 3000 women and 2900 dependent children are living in emergency shelters to flee violence.
  • Ultimately cost of violence against women to the system is $1 billion each year.

These shocking facts and lot more was discussed with Tripat in the interview for which she gave some case examples too without revealing the names involved.
